Why We are Called Weekenddating Back in 2003, while working in corporate America, I (Jay) found myself as the last single one in my group of friends. Everyone else was getting hitched or had a partner, and it wasn't exactly a blast. A colleague named Samantha mentioned she'd seen something on the news called Hurry Date, which she thought would suit me. I attended a few events, but they were always on a Tuesday or Wednesday night. I loved the concept but couldn't justify getting home at 11:30 PM when I had to be up at 6 AM for work. I started hunting for weekend events, but they were non-existent. So, I took matters into my own hands and Weekenddating was born. Although we occasionally host midweek events, our primary focus remains on weekend gatherings. Why Speed Dating Works How many times have you spotted someone you wanted to approach but hesitated? No one enjoys that awkward feeling. What's great about Westchester speed dating is that it eliminates that awkwardness. No pressure to start conversations, and even better, no pressure to end them - it's all taken care of for you. Now, to be fully transparent... Sure, luck plays a part, depending on who shows up on the night. But trust me, it really does work. I've witnessed at least 85 couples tying the knot, plus there are over 10 kids and countless happy couples who owe it to speed dating. Can You Really Get to Know Someone in 5 Minutes? Five minutes may not be enough time to decide if you'll marry someone, but it's plenty to gauge if you want to get to know them better. If you're unsure after the mini-date, you can always say yes and figure it out later. What Happens at the Westchester Speed Dating Event? Arrive about 15-30 minutes before the start time to settle in. Check in with your host to receive your welcome packet (We do check for proof of age to ensure we deliver what's advertised). Then, everyone is paired off into groups of two. You'll spend approximately five minutes with each person and jot down a few notes to help you remember them. (Note-taking is crucial; otherwise, it can get confusing since you'll meet a lot of people.) Then, the guys shift over one spot, and the process repeats. How Many People Will I Meet? You'll have a minimum of 7 dates and a maximum of about 12. It varies each time, and we adjust the time per date based on the total number of dates. How Do I Indicate Who I Liked? For in-person events, hand in a scorecard to let us know your selections. Within 24 hours, you'll receive an email detailing your matches. You'll find out about both mutual matches and one-way matches (where they picked you, but you didn't pick them).
